TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taiwanese American photographer captured these spectacular sunrise photos on Yushan last year.
Brian Wu (Instagram @justbrianwu), a documentary lifestyle photographer, told Taiwan News the photos were taken from March 26-27 with a Fujifilm x100v and Canon R6 Mark ii. On Sunday, Wu posted the photos to Reddit, where they quickly gained 445 upvotes.
Wu was born in Los Angeles to Taiwanese parents but grew up in Taiwan until the sixth grade when his family moved to the US. When asked about his motivation to take the photos, Wu said he has been inspired to visit Taiwan frequently and document the country where he grew up.

Wu explained that he is trying to start a project to document “every single small town and county” over the next five to 10 years and publish photo books based on his work.
He said that he had been backpacking on the West Coast US for some time and his uncle had been trying to finish “baiyue” (百岳), Taiwan's top 100 mountain peaks. His uncle decided to take him and his cousin to Yushan and he documented the process in photo and video.
