TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of National Defense on Wednesday revealed plans to extend the live-fire phase of Han Kuang 41 to 10 days.
This change aims to strengthen Taiwan’s ability to counter Chinese threats and gray-zone tactics, senior military officials said, per CNA. An entire reserve brigade is expected to be mobilized, they said. The military will also place a greater emphasis on logistics resupply, communication restoration, and military-civilian cooperation.
China launched three major live-fire exercises near Taiwan last year and dispatched 3,075 military aircraft into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone between January and December, according to data compiled by ChinaPower.
As a result, the defense ministry increased Han Kuang 40’s live-fire phase to eight days. It eliminated pre-scripted scenarios and emphasized real-time, real-equipment training. Random situations were assigned for units to respond to. The ministry also incorporated nighttime drills to enhance combat readiness.
