TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan signed a memorandum of understanding with the Czech humanitarian group People in Need to help Ukrainian refugees in the central European country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.
Deputy Foreign Minister Francois Wu (吳志中) and Czech envoy to Taiwan David Steinke oversaw the ceremony by video conferencing Tuesday, the ministry said in a statement. In his address to the meeting, Wu called the signing of the MOU an important milestone.
When Ukraine needed assistance, Taiwan was there to help, the senior diplomat said. Since the start of the war in 2022, Taiwan and People in Need have helped refugees fit into their new community, and safeguarded their rights to education, language learning, and psychological counseling, according to Wu.
The new document included the provision of an information hotline for the refugees, as well as counseling and psychological support for young people in the Czech Republic and later in Ukraine if they return home.
