TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei has been ranked in the top 20 of the best cities in the Asia-Pacific by a marketing consultancy firm.
On Thursday, Resonance Consultancy released its “2025 Asia-Pacific's Best Cities" report. Resonance ranked the top 100 cities with a population of over 1 million based on "core statistics and user-generated online sources such as Google, Tripadvisor, and Instagram to measure quality of place when it comes to experiential factors.”
Singapore came in first, followed by Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Beijing, Bangkok, Sydney, Shanghai, Melbourne, and Kuala Lumpur, rounding out the top 10. Taipei ranked 16th, just one spot behind Auckland and one notch ahead of Guangzhou.
Resonance gave Taipei high marks for shopping (fifth) and Healthcare System Index (sixth). Taiwan's capital also excelled in “livability” and “lovability” at 12th and 18th, while while coming in 46th for prosperity.
The firm lauded Taipei's burgeoning dining scene with many Michelin-starred restaurants such as Din Tai Fung. The city's “plentiful parks” ranked eighth in the report with Yangmingshan National Park a brief drive from the city center.
Thanks to Taipei's status as a global tech nexus, with companies such as Acer and Asus, it ranked ninth for the Fortune 500 subcategory and 16th for business ecosystem. The report credited Taipei's local innovation combining “tech gadgets and cultural treasures.”
Resonance pointed out that The Sky Taipei tower will further bolster the luxury shopping scene in Taipei. The ranking noted that Taipei's progressive policies as the first Asian capital to legalize same-sex marriage will “make it an inclusive and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.”
Other Taiwanese cities earned a ranking on the list include Taichung at 44th, Kaohsiung at 45th, and Tainan at 50th.
