TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Rescue workers found a driver after his cement truck crashed 20 meters down a mountainside in Nantou County Friday.
He was driving the truck on a road outside the village of Mahebo in Renai Township around 8 a.m. when he veered into a ravine, per CNA. The reason for the accident is still not known.
The local fire department sent rescue teams totaling 14 people in six vehicles with ropes and specialized equipment. As they arrived on the scene, they noticed the road was narrow and slippery following days of heavy rainfall.
Within 30 minutes, two rescuers rappelling down the cliff reached the truck driver. He was conscious but had abrasions all over his body, as well as lacerations on the left side of his face and an injury to his right ankle. The rescue workers used a stretcher to lift him out of the ravine.
The driver reached the road around 9:22 a.m., received medical care, and was transferred to a nearby hospital, according to the fire department.
