TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A delegation of lawmakers from the UK arrived in Taiwan on Saturday for a week-long visit.
The delegation is led by Sarah Chapman, chair of the International Development Committee of the House of Commons. In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) welcomed the visiting members of Parliament and expressed appreciation for their support of Taiwan.
During their stay until Feb. 22, the lawmakers are scheduled to meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), and National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu (吳釗燮). Discussions will focus on bilateral relations, Taiwan’s economic and political situation, and regional security issues.
The delegation is also set to meet with Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang (江啟臣), Environmental Minister Peng Qi-ming (彭啟明), and former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文). As part of their itinerary, the group will visit the Taiwan Space Agency in Hsinchu and the Asia Drone AI Innovation Application R&D Center in Chiayi, per MOFA.
Chapman, who also chairs the British-Taiwanese All-Party Parliamentary Group, has been a staunch advocate for Taiwan. Last year, she addressed the House of Commons in support of Taiwan’s participation in global organizations before Parliament passed a resolution on Taiwan’s international status and China’s misinterpretation of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758.
Accompanying Chapman on the visit are Baron Jeremy Purvis, Benjamin Spencer, Yang Yuan (楊緣), Helena Dollimore, Noah Law, and David Reed.
