TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Legislator Lin Tai-hua (林岱樺) was released on NT$1 million (US$35,600) bail Friday in Kaohsiung following allegations of corruption and abuse of power.
The DPP lawmaker has been barred from leaving the country and must live at home or a designated residence, per CNA. In response, Lin claims there is ongoing judicial interference in the Kaohsiung primaries.
She was quoted as saying, “Politics interferes with the judiciary, and the judiciary interferes with the primaries.”
The 52-year-old’s home and office in the southern port city were searched on Thursday. She was questioned for embezzling her aide’s payments. However, Lin denies the allegations.
CNA reported that she was also being investigated for abuse of power. This related to seeking out sponsorship for events organized by a temple, on which she was a board member.
A temple member was detained and bailed for breaching the Anti-corruption Act. Also, Lin’s sister was bailed in the same matter early Friday. Lin’s younger brother and two others are also being sought.
After leaving the district prosecutors' office early Friday, Lin said she was being attacked by “dark forces.”
Lin has been an elected representative in Kaohsiung for 24 years. She had been tipped to run for Kaohsiung mayor in 2026.
