TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s first indigenous submarine, the Narwhal, moved to a pier in Kaohsiung on Friday to start mooring tests.
The submarine has completed a phase of testing that focused on tilting, while the next phase, including adjustments and mooring tests, will begin Friday, according to shipbuilder CSBC Corporation, Taiwan. The submarine was spotted by amateur photographers and fans of shipping and military affairs, the Liberty Times reported.
CSBC said the submarine will continue following the original timetable for testing. Once the harbor acceptance tests are completed in April, they will move on to sea acceptance tests.
According to the contract, CSBC said it planned to hand over the Narwhal to the Navy in November, per CNA. Earlier in the week, the Ministry of National Defense denied media reports that problems had occurred with the submarine’s power supply, disrupting the delivery schedule.
