TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Han Kuang 41 military exercises will last a record 10 days in July, while the computer simulations will take 14 days, Defense Minister Wellington Koo (顧立雄) said Tuesday.
This year's main themes are coordination among forces, missile accuracy, and response to gray zone tactics, the Liberty Times reported. Gray zone tactics are defined as “an effort or series of efforts beyond steady-state deterrence and assurance that attempts to achieve one’s security objectives without resort to direct and sizable use of force.”
Koo said the ministry would upgrade the “AI broadcaster,” which spread the news of the live drills in 18 languages last year. Troop mobilization will be sped up to meet the rapidly growing threat by China’s military, with the procedure to be emphasized over the following years.
Koo said that besides the Han Kuang exercises, drills this year will focus on naval, terrestrial, and air and missile defense, as well as cyber warfare and immediate war preparations. Other elements include the prevention of enemy coast landing, beach warfare, and long war preparation.
