TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese actor Darren Wang (王大陸), who was already facing charges for evading military service, was questioned by prosectors on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in attempted murder.
Wang, 33, who gained fame for his role in “Our Times,” recently made headlines for his military service evasion scheme. However, the actor now faces legal troubles after returning to Taiwan from a trip. He reportedly booked an airport pickup through a ride-hailing platform but was dissatisfied with the poor quality of the vehicle assigned to him, per UDN.
Wang allegedly arranged for the driver and dispatcher to be severely beaten. Both individuals were reportedly left badly injured.
Wang’s agent responded to media inquiries, saying, “We are in the process of looking into the situation. Thank you.”
Liberty Times cited sources as saying that the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office directed police to conduct a four-location search on Tuesday. Wang and another suspect were taken into custody for questioning in connection with the assaults.
In February, the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office received a tip-off about his involvement in military service evasion. Wang, along with nine others, was arrested, and it was revealed that he spent a significant sum to falsely claim he had heart problems.
Wang was released on bail of NT$150,000, and he is expected to begin his mandatory military service on March 13, with a one-year term. Due to this incident of violent assault on the driver and dispatcher, there is uncertainty regarding whether he will be able to begin his service.
