Led by the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra’s newly appointed Associate Conductor Jerry Hou (后正宇), the company’s new program will feature an all-French repertoire.
Previously the first-ever resident conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Taiwanese-American has collaborated closely with ESO’s newly appointed artist-in-residence, Jaap van Zweden, since 2021.
The concert on April 15 at the National Concert Hall in Taipei will also feature guest soloist Charlotte Hu (胡瀞云). The Taiwanese-American pianist won several prestigious awards at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Israel.
She will perform Ravel’s “Piano Concerto in G Major,” offering music lovers an opportunity to indulge in the elegance of French classical music on a warm spring evening.

The concert will open with Berlioz’s “Roman Carnival Overture,” a piece brimming with lively melodies and dynamic orchestration that evokes a festive atmosphere. It has vigorous rhythms and dazzling instrumental interplay.
Following this, Hu will take the stage to play her Ravel piece, with its playful harmonies. Her vibrant and expressive interpretation is expected to bring fresh energy to this masterpiece.
The second half of the concert will feature works by impressionist composer Claude Debussy. The program includes “Prelude a L'apres-Midi d'un Faune,” which starts with a mesmerizing flute solo. It gradually unfolds into a dreamlike soundscape.
The evening will conclude with Debussy’s orchestral work “La Mer,” a vivid and evocative portrayal of the ocean’s ever-changing moods — from shimmering waves to tempestuous surges — leaving listeners inspired by the majesty of the sea.

For lovers of French classical music, this is a concert not to be missed.
