TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s military will conduct a comprehensive exercise involving all Armed Forces units next Monday.
An official familiar with the matter said the five-day exercise will boost the nation’s combat readiness. Troops will be deployed to corresponding locations for drills, per CNA.
The exercise comes as China has intensified its gray zone tactics against Taiwan in the past five years. The number of intrusions into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone has increased in frequency and scope, while more Chinese military and civilian ships have been tracked in waters around Taiwan. The Chinese military has also used drones and high-altitude balloons for gray zone operations.
Taiwan’s military carried out airspace control measures ahead of a separate live-fire exercise scheduled for March 24 off the coast of Kaohsiung and Pingtung. Commercial and public activity will be restricted from the ocean surface to an altitude of 1,800 meters.
Additionally, the computer simulation and live-fire segments of this year’s Han Kuang war games have been extended to 14 and 10 days, respectively. The longer period tests the military’s ability to counter Chinese threats and gray-zone tactics. Taiwan will place a greater emphasis on logistics resupply, communication restoration, and military-civilian cooperation.
