TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A government cybersecurity organization said 2,000 companies have joined it to prevent hacking and other threats.
The Taiwan Computer Emergency Response Team/Coordination Center, which also refers to itself as TWERT/CC, operates under an agency of the digital ministry. TWERT/CC Director Sun Wei-che (孫偉哲) told CNA on Friday that since he took on the role last year, the center has focused on directly communicating with each of its members.
TWERT/CC said around 65% of the information it shares with its members relates to hacking. Sun said that sharing the information keeps businesses up to date on the latest cybersecurity threats, helping them prevent attacks.
Sun said the finance industry is concerned about phishing attacks targeting their customers. He said finance industry members notify the center about phishing websites so its parent organization, the Taiwan Internet Information Center, can remove them.
Sun described the center’s work as “public-private” defense against cyber attacks. He said the more information companies provide the center, the better their cybersecurity will be.
Sun said 40% of the center’s members are in the manufacturing industry, and 20% are in information services. He said there are also members in medical care and other industries.
Last month, the National Security Bureau said that Taiwan faced an average of 2.4 million cyberattacks per day in 2024, which mostly targeted government agencies. It attributed most of these to China.
