TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs is visiting Taiwan to meet President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and top executives at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, reports said Saturday.
The world’s largest computer chip contract manufacturer has built fabs near the state capital Phoenix, and recently announced plans for five more facilities in the US. Hobbs specifically mentioned that her second visit to Taiwan would focus on strengthening ties with its technology sector, the Liberty Times reported.
The governor wrote on her X feed that Arizona was “the best place in the world to do business,” and that she was going to deliver that message to industry leaders in Taiwan.
Her visit will last until Wednesday, with her delegation including Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. The state administration emphasized that TSMC’s latest plans would create 40,000 construction jobs and tens of thousands of jobs in the technology and manufacturing sectors.
Arizona is eager to strengthen its position as the leading US home for foreign investment by pioneering firms in advanced technology and AI, Hobbs said.
