TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The National Immigration Agency has given a Chinese influencer 10 days to leave Taiwan after she advocated on social media for military force to annex Taiwan.
Liu Zhenya (劉振亞), a Chinese national known as “Yaya in Taiwan” (亞亞在台灣), was notified last week that her residence permit had been revoked. The NIA said her remarks posed a risk to national security and social stability.
On Saturday, she claimed on TikTok that the NIA had originally informed her that, considering she had a child, she could apply for family reunification and stay in Taiwan for six months. She said the agency shortened her allowed stay to 10 days, per CNA.
NIA Deputy Director-General Chen Chieh-Cheng (陳建成) on Saturday said the agency has required Liu to comply with the departure deadline. Chen said if she fails to leave, a forced deportation will be carried out per the law.
Chen denied Liu's claim that it agreed to allow her to stay in Taiwan for six months, per PTS News. He confirmed that the NIA asked Liu on Mar. 14 to leave within 10 days. This means that Mar. 24 would be the final deadline before a forced deportation.
The media asked Chen why Liu, who has lived in Taiwan for years, has not obtained a national ID card. Chen replied that everything was being handled under relevant regulations.
In response to the influencer's claims that her right to freedom of speech had been denied, Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) on March 12 said that “freedom of speech is not a gift that falls from the sky, nor is it an excuse for military united front tactics or armed invasion,” per FTV News. Therefore, Liu said the influencer was dealt with under the Cross-Strait Act.
