TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — MediaTek ranked as the fifth-largest integrated circuit (IC) design company in 2023, generating NT$544.18 billion (US$16.5 billion) in revenue, TrendForce reported Monday.
The report projects MediaTek’s 5G smartphone penetration to exceed 65% this year, with growing market share in high-end devices. Its partnership with Nvidia on Project Digits, an AI-powered slim supercomputer, is expected to sustain growth momentum.
Nvidia remained the global leader in IC design, reporting US$124.3 billion in revenue, nearly half of the total revenue among the top 10 IC design firms, CNA reported.
Qualcomm, benefiting from mobile device and automotive sector growth, secured second place with US$34.8 billion in revenue.
Broadcom, also driven by AI demand, ranked third, generating US$30.64 billion.
AMD placed fourth, with 14% year-on-year growth, reaching US$25.79 billion.
TrendForce noted that high-end AI chip production requires significant capital and advanced technology, creating high entry barriers and reinforcing industry dominance among top players. In 2023, the top five IC design firms accounted for over 90% of total revenue among the top 10 companies.
Looking ahead, TrendForce expects advanced semiconductor processes to enhance AI computing power. The development of large language models and open-source AI frameworks will lower cost barriers, expanding AI applications from servers to personal devices.
