TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A Foxconn Technology plant in the Indian city of Hyderabad will start manufacturing Apple AirPods in April, reports said Tuesday.
The headphones will only be destined for export, according to a report by Indian news agency PTI. Following iPhones, AirPods would become the second Apple product that Foxconn is turning out in India.
The electronics maker has earmarked US$400 million (NT$13.2 billion) for the factory in August 2023, the Economic Times of India reported.
India had imposed a 20% duty on “hearable and wearable” products like headphones. The Trump administration might counter by introducing import duties on India next month.
The AirPods made by Foxconn would be mainly exported to the US and Europe, per CNA. India would benefit from no US tariffs, although there is uncertainty about Trump's next moves.
