TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A poll released on Friday found that 39% of Taiwanese believe the US would send troops in the event of a Chinese invasion.
The Taiwanese Public Opinion Foundation poll found a majority of respondents believe the US will not assist with troops if China attacks Taiwan. There was an 11% gap between those who believe the US will not intervene and those who believe troop support will be provided.
Regarding international business, 43% of Taiwanese were happy to see TSMC invest US$100 billion (NT$3.29 trillion) in the US, while 44% opposed this overseas investment. On a similar subject, 62% believe TSMC's investment will help promote Taiwan-US relations, while 32% believe it will not help.
As for the three-year Russian-Ukrainian war, polls found that 76% of Taiwanese believe Russia's military attack on Ukraine was unjustified, while only 10% believe the attack was justified. Additionally, 41% of Taiwanese strongly believe Russia’s military attack on Ukraine was unjustified.
As for President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) approval ratings, 49% of Taiwanese support his handling of state affairs, while 39% disapprove, and 12% have no opinion or do not know. Lai’s approval ratings were similar to a January survey.
Regarding the performance of Premier Cho Jung-tai’s (卓榮泰) Cabinet, 45% of Taiwanese were satisfied with the government’s performance, and 39% of respondents were dissatisfied with the performance, with 16% having no opinion or not knowing.
As for political party support, the poll shows that 37% of Taiwanese support the DPP, 21% support the KMT, 25% are neutral, 14% support the TPP, 1.5% support the NPP, and 1.5% support other parties.
TPOF said the poll was conducted between Monday and Wednesday, with 1,079 responses from Taiwanese of voting age via landline and cellphone. The poll was designed by Professor You Ying-long (游盈隆) and covered international and domestic subjects with a sampling error within a 95% confidence level.
