TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Liu Ho-jan (劉和然) shared the latest version of the New Taipei City Dome in a radio interview program on Wednesday, noting the height of the dome will reach 75 meters with an expected 50,000-person capacity.
As for site selection, Liu said six potential locations were evaluated last month: Tucheng Detention Center, Banshu Gymnasium in Banqiao, two sites in Shulin, a park in Sanxia, and Tamshui’s Danhai area. Liu said New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) ordered two sites to be selected before August, with a final decision to be made before year-end, per UP Media.
Liu said New Taipei has a population of 4.04 million. If one adds adjacent areas such as Yilan, Keelung, Taipei, and Taoyuan, the total population approaches 10 million, sufficient to support two large sports domes.

The current plan for the New Taipei Dome includes a height that is 1 meter taller than the Taipei Dome, along with a larger capacity of 50,000, which is comparable to the Tokyo Dome. Liu hopes the new dome will help Taiwan attract more international baseball competitions.
Regarding transportation, the six sites under evaluation are all located along MRT lines. They are also mostly located near ongoing transportation improvement projects that are expected to be completed between 2026 and 2030.
Liu said after a site selection is made at year-end, plans will be launched and completed during the current mayor's term. “It's like starting a train, after beginning to move we will make progress.”
