TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A delegation of Ukrainian mayors arrived in Taiwan on Monday to attend the Taipei Smart City Summit & Expo.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a welcome reception for the group on Tuesday evening.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said the group’s visit symbolizes a deepening friendship between the two nations, according to MOFA. He praised Ukraine’s local governments as key pillars of national development that provide stability and support to citizens during wartime.
Lin said he was confident that Taiwan’s technology sector could assist in Ukraine’s urban recovery and improve the well-being of Ukrainian citizens.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyy and Uzhhorod Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv thanked Taiwan for supporting Ukraine during its most challenging time. They highlighted Taiwan’s contributions to Ukraine’s reconstruction, including rebuilding the Unbroken Medical Center in Lviv and providing 500 power generators across the country.
Both mayors warmly welcomed Taiwanese businesses to participate in Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts.
During the Smart City Expo, Taiwan will host a forum titled "Taiwan’s Support for Ukraine’s Reconstruction: Technology, Cooperation, and Progress." The discussion will put together Taiwanese smart technology companies with experts to engage with Ukrainian city mayors, MOFA said.
The delegation includes 35 municipal officials from 11 Ukrainian cities.
