TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck Tainan Friday at 4:29 p.m., the Central Weather Administration said.
The quake struck 30.6 kilometers east of Tainan City Hall at a focal depth of 10.1 kilometers. The epicenter was located in Nanhua District, according to the report.
The quake’s biggest intensity level reached level 4 in parts of Tainan and Kaohsiung. Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
The region has been hit by several earthquakes after a magnitude 6.4 quake in Chiayi County on Jan. 21 caused damage to buildings and roads in Chiayi and Tainan.
