TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A search of its government office building revealed no explosives despite bomb threats made earlier in the day, the Mainland Affairs Council said Friday.
The ministry managing China policies received an e-mail threatening an explosion if it failed to issue a statement condemning the Falun Gong religious group and its Shen Yun dance troupe, per CNA. The message said explosives had already been planted inside the skyscraper housing the council and other government departments across the road from the Legislative Yuan in Taipei.
Police searched the building but did not find any signs of explosive devices. However, they will continue their investigation and try and locate the origin of the threatening e-mail.
A preliminary probe had shown the IP address of the sender to be in India, police said. An e-mail from the same location had issued threats against the Ministry of Digital Affairs recently.
