TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A fire broke out early Saturday morning at a factory in Tainan’s Yongkang District, spreading to 10 nearby buildings and resulting in one death.
A 76-year-old woman who lived alone, surnamed Chen (陳), was unable to escape. Her body was found on the second floor of one of the affected buildings, per CNA.
The fire caused damage to about 2,000 square meters. The cause of the blaze and the extent of property damage are under investigation.
Emergency responders received the call at 2:11 a.m., with 34 fire trucks and 115 personnel, including firefighters and volunteers, dispatched to the scene. The fire was under control by 4:01 a.m. and fully extinguished by 5:55 a.m.
