TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Starting April 1, the price of Taiwan High-Speed Rail meal boxes will increase by NT$10 (30 cents), bringing the new price to NT$120.
THSR attributed the price hike to rising raw material costs. Last year, the price was raised from NT$100 to NT$110, marking the first price increase since 2015, per CNA and UDN.
The meal boxes, produced by Kaohsiung Airport Catering Services, offer three options: braised pork chop, roasted chicken, and braised king trumpet mushroom. They are available on select train services departing from Nangang and Zuoying stations during the hours between 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Meal boxes are also sold at stations during these times, with availability varying by location and limited quantities. THSR reported average daily sales of around 4,000 meal boxes last year.
Meanwhile, Taiwan Railways Spokesperson Liu Shuang-huo (劉雙火) confirmed that Taiwan Railway meal box prices will remain unchanged, with no planned increases. Taiwan Railways sells around 20,000 meal boxes daily.
