TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) praised overseas Taiwanese as the best ambassadors during a meeting with a delegation from Japan on Monday.
Overseas Taiwanese embody “the hardworking, passionate, sincere, and kind spirit of Taiwan,” Han said. He encouraged all Taiwanese abroad to overlook political differences and have “only Taiwan in their hearts," urging unity and cooperation for a better future, according to the Legislative Yuan.
Han thanked Taiwanese in Japan for organizing National Day celebrations each year, which not only shows their love for Taiwan but also enhances the country's international visibility. He pointed out that many legislators are planning to visit Japan for the 2025 World Expo in April.
On Taiwan-Japan exchanges, Han pointed out that over 1.18 million Japanese traveled to Taiwan last year, while 6.04 million Taiwanese went to Japan. He also mentioned TSMC’s fab opening in Kumamoto, with a second fab set to begin construction this year.
The legislative speaker reiterated that the Legislative Yuan and the Overseas Community Affairs Council value overseas Taiwanese and pledged full support. He also called for more exchanges between Taiwan and Taiwanese communities abroad.
