TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Legislative Yuan revoked New Party member You Chih-pin’s (游智彬) press credentials on Tuesday, saying he broke the lawmaking body’s media rules.
You’s press pass was revoked following complaints from DPP legislators who occupied the speaker’s rostrum in protest Friday and Tuesday. The legislators protested You live-streaming proceedings while allegedly insulting lawmakers from the press gallery, per UDN.
In a press release, the Legislative Yuan said its press rules allow media individuals who work for online newspapers but not blogs. The press release noted You live-streamed legislative proceedings from the press gallery and said he had been banned from the chamber.
The Legislative Yuan said it cannot refuse press credentials based on an applicant's political inclinations, past statements, or organization. It said it respects people’s constitutionally guaranteed right to free speech and is open to reporters.

The Legislative Yuan said 2,197 press credentials were issued for the current legislative session. It said there are not many people with press passes.
Before the revocation, DPP Legislator Wu Szu-yao (吳思瑤) labeled You a “pro-unification figure and a fake reporter.” She accused him of bullying media staff and collecting information for China, per CNA.
In a Facebook post, You said he was not live-streaming legislative sessions to collect information for China. He said the Legislative Yuan's live broadcasts were public.
According to an advertisement for his 2022 book, You believes Taiwan and China are “difficult to separate” and opposes anti-China rhetoric. The New Party has one councilor elected in Taipei and no legislators.
