TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — China Airlines will soon sign deals with Airbus and Boeing to acquire new aircraft.
A signing ceremony between China Airlines Chair Kao Shing-hwang (高星潢) and Airbus Executive Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Sales Benoit de Saint-Exupery will be held Monday, CNA reported.
China Airlines will purchase 10 Airbus A350-1000 passenger aircraft powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines. Three-class cabin configurations — Premium Business, Premium Economy, and Economy — will offer “a more spacious, more comfortable, and quieter flying environment,” according to China Airlines.
An agreement with Boeing to buy 10 Boeing 777-9 passenger aircraft equipped with General Electric GE9X engines and four Boeing 777-8F freighters will likely be signed in late April or early May.
The new fleet will be deployed on long-haul passenger and cargo routes to North America and Europe, China Airlines said. The deal is expected to cut fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 25%, it added. Delivery of the aircraft is scheduled to begin in 2029.
