TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Acer and Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation launched Taiwan's first AI-powered train on Thursday.
The train consists of six carriages equipped with 108 horizontal screens and 72 vertical screens for advertising display. The front and rear carriages each feature a naked-eye 3D screen, per CNA.
Acer said the screens use AI combined with optical imaging and eye-tracking technologies to display 3D images, allowing passengers to enjoy an immersive visual experience without the need for special glasses or headsets.
The train integrates location-based technology, Acer said. As the train passes through each station, the screens will automatically display special offers from local businesses. Passengers can scan QR codes on the screen to receive discounts.
The train launched Thursday on the Taipei Metro Tamsui-Xinyi Line. Acer Taiwan Chief Operating Officer Chang Shih-hsin (張世欣) said the company, in collaboration with Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, spent a year building the train to provide intelligent transportation solutions.
The train is also equipped with Acer's smart safety notification platform, integrating Acer's AI algorithms and Nvidia's computing devices. The platform can detect passengers' movements and display footage on devices inside the driver’s cabin.
Acer said it will continue using AI to enhance safety management, including deploying sound recognition technology to analyze screams for identification during emergencies. The company will also implement an obstruction detection system to improve the efficiency of operations.
Displays above the train doors show the travel route and station names, Acer added. These displays were upgraded from LED to 48-inch LCD screens, offering clearer image quality.
