TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The House of Representatives of the US state of Vermont on Thursday unanimously passed a motion in support of Taiwan.
The resolution called for the signing of an Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement and expressed support for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, per CNA. It also condemned China’s distortion of United Nations Resolution 2758.
The resolution, adopted in 1971, allowed China to join the UN, but did not mention Taiwan. Despite this, Beijing has falsely claimed that the resolution affirms its sovereignty over Taiwan.
Taiwan’s representative in Boston, Charles Liao (廖朝宏), attended the session of Vermont’s 150-member House and received applause from legislators upon his appearance.
During his visit, Liao also met with senior government officials and lawmakers. His office mentioned that Taiwan was the New England state’s second largest export market.
