TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Belgian foreign ministry highlighted China's escalating threats toward Taiwan in its “2025 Policy Plan” published earlier this month.
The report said China has expanded military exercises around Taiwan and has deliberately tried to undermine Taiwan’s social stability, according to a Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release. The report also stressed that a Chinese invasion of Taiwan would have severe political and economic consequences for Europe.
The Belgian foreign ministry called on all parties to maintain the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and avoid provocative actions that could trigger a conflict. It also underscored the importance of maintaining harmony and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
MOFA said the report demonstrates Belgium’s “concern over the Taiwan Strait situation” and support for maintaining peace and stability. MOFA hoped for deeper bilateral exchanges and cooperation with Belgium to uphold a rules-based international order and promote regional peace.
Last Wednesday, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot expressed concern over China’s increasing military activities near Taiwan in response to inquiries from Belgium’s Chamber of Representatives, per MOFA.
