TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two Chinese influencers have yet to abide by a National Immigration Agency order to leave Taiwan, with the deadline less than 12 hours away.
The NIA said on Mar. 26 that two Chinese spouses, Enqi (恩綺) and Xiaowei (小微), must leave Taiwan by Monday for supporting a military invasion of Taiwan. On Monday morning, Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) said both individuals are still in Taiwan and have hired lawyers to file administrative appeals and lawsuits, per SET News.
Liu said it is uncertain whether they will leave the country before the deadline passes. According to the NIA, if the two do not depart by 11:59 p.m. Monday, they will face forced deportation.
Liu said one of the individuals already booked a flight, while the second was undecided. She said the second appears to have a special status and is in frequent communication with China’s Taiwan Affairs Office.
“One moment they say they will leave, the next they say they won’t," said Liu.
Another Chinese influencer, Liu Zhenya (劉振亞), had her dependent residence permit revoked and was ordered to leave Taiwan after she voiced support for a Chinese invasion. Despite initially planning to defy the deportation order on Mar. 25, she changed her mind and left voluntarily that evening.
Meanwhile, Enqi and Xiaowei were targeted for investigation by the NIA and summoned for questioning. On Mar. 21, the NIA announced that their dependent and long-term residence permits had been revoked.
They were given 10 days to leave voluntarily or face forced deportation.
