TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The digital affairs ministry launched an NT$10 billion (US$301 million) investment program to strengthen AI industries on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference, Digital Affairs Minister Huang Yen-nun (黃彥男) said the ministry is promoting the AI industry through five key areas: computing power, data, talent, marketing, and funding, per CNA. He added that the program aims to help the digital economy become the next trillion-dollar industry and create more AI unicorns.
National Development Council Minister Liu Chin-ching (劉鏡清) said the NT$10 billion injection is just the foundation, per Commercial Times. The scope of the program ranges from cybersecurity to gaming.
The program has a ten-year execution period, with government and private sectors investing on a 1:1 basis, per Liberty Times. The digital ministry will cooperate with investors to help AI industries accelerate their listing or expand into international markets.
Liu added the NDC is revising the Statute for Industrial Innovation to stimulate AI investment and adoption by firms. Furthermore, six investment briefing sessions and four matchmaking meetings are planned this year.
The first batch of investors includes ASUS-affiliated Taiwan AI Cloud, TaiAn Technologies, and Abico Asia Capital.
