TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of National Defense released a map showing the PLA's activities around Taiwan on Tuesday.
The PLA announced the drills on Tuesday. The Ministry of National Defense reported that 76 Chinese military aircraft, 15 naval vessels, and four official ships conducted exercises around Taiwan from Tuesday to Wednesday, per CNA.
On Tuesday evening, the MND released a map of the exercises. Ian Ellis, founder of IEJ Media, on Wednesday posted an English translation of the map on X.
The map shows PLA vessels in red in the north, central, southwest, and east sectors of the air defense identification zone. Chinese coast guard ships in purple are shown near Matsu's Dongyin Township.
The Shandong aircraft carrier group includes eight military vessels and is depicted as a pink circle. The carrier group is shown located 220 nautical miles (407 km) southeast of Taiwan.
According to the map, at 7:21 a.m., the MND detected PLA naval and air exercises around Taiwan. PLA naval forces included 13 ships, 4 coast guard vessels, and the Shandong carrier group.
When the map was released Tuesday night, the MND had detected 71 PLA aircraft, 36 of which had entered Taiwan's ADIZ.
At around 8 a.m., Coast Guard radar monitoring detected two Chinese coast guard vessels in restricted waters near Matsu's Xiyin island and another two near Kinmen's Wuqiu Township. The Coast Guard activated its response center and dispatched four patrol boats.
According to the map, at 8:30 a.m., the Eastern Theater Command announced that it had dispatched coast guard vessels to conduct law enforcement patrols around Taiwan. It said these exercises included inspection and seizure operations, interception, and detention drills.
