TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The military plans to mobilize more than 20,000 reservists for the live-fire segment of Han Kuang 41 from July 8 to 18.
A military source said the number of reservists mobilized for the Han Kuang live-fire drills has been increasing every year, Liberty Times reported. Last year’s exercise mobilized around 14,000 reservists. This year, an additional 6,000 will be called up.
Most of these reservists will have undergone the new two-week refresher training program, which includes various drills and live-fire training to sharpen their combat skills.
The Han Kuang 41 live-fire exercise will take place across Taiwan proper and the offshore islands for 10 days—the longest duration since its inception in 1984. It will involve all personnel and equipment and test Taiwan’s joint anti-blockade capability. Unit commanders at all levels will design combat scenarios and simulate situations.
The two-week computer simulation portion of the exercise kicked off on Saturday and will consider possible Chinese gray zone tactics.
