TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Mobile chip designer MediaTek announced Wednesday its latest AI-powered Kompanio Ultra chip for Chromebooks.
MediaTek said in a press release that it is the company’s most powerful Chromebook processor to date, integrating 50 TOPS of AI processing power. The new silicon supports generative AI, real-time automation, and secure local processing, per CNA.
Built on the advanced 3 nm process, the chip features an all-big-core CPU with Arm Cortex-X925 cores reaching up to 3.62 GHz, delivering top-tier single and multithreaded performance. It is optimized for demanding tasks including video editing, content creation, and gaming, with smooth multitasking and minimal lag.
Kompanio Ultra also excels in energy efficiency, thanks to advanced power management and large on-chip caches. It supports all-day battery life, enabling users to work, stream, and play longer on a single charge.
The platform supports up to two external 4K displays and features Hi-Fi audio for clear calls and immersive sound. With Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, it ensures faster speeds, lower latency, and better range.
John Solomon, VP of Chrome OS at Google, said he was excited about the partnership with MediaTek. “Kompanio Ultra will open up new avenues for on-device AI features on Chromebook Plus devices, while delivering awesome power efficiency for those crucial extra hours while on the go,” he added.
MediaTek said Chromebooks featuring Kompanio Ultra will begin rolling out in the coming months.
