TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Pingtung County signed a sister agreement with Delaware County, Pennsylvania, on Monday, marking the first such deal between Pingtung and a US local government under County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi’s (周春米) administration.
Chou and Delaware County Council Chair Monica Taylor signed the agreement in Pingtung.
According to the Pingtung County Government, the partnership aims to foster long-term friendly ties in areas such as sustainable development, urban governance, and education and culture. Both counties pledged to promote low-carbon, sustainable cities and “start a new chapter in Taiwan-US local cooperation.”
Chou said the two counties share similar governance values despite being on opposite sides of the Pacific. She called the agreement a significant breakthrough in Taiwan-US local diplomacy.
Taylor said the pact would deepen cooperation and bring the two distant communities closer together in pursuit of a more sustainable and healthy future.
The signing was followed by the 2025 Pingtung–Delaware County Sustainable Urban Governance Forum, where both sides shared achievements in water resource management, the circular economy, and green energy.
Taylor is leading a delegation to Taiwan that includes officials from the Office of Sustainability and other departments.
