TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — National Security Bureau Director Tsai Ming-yen (蔡明彥) on Wednesday vowed to track down Chinese spies in government and punish them.
During a Legislative Yuan session, Tsai said they betray the country and harm national interests, per TVBS. He added the national security and intelligence teams would “conduct a comprehensive investigation regardless of political affiliation.”
Tsai had told the media before the session that the NSB would “swiftly investigate and severely punish those involved in espionage cases.”
He added the NSB is working with the Ministry of Justice to review regulations and improve the resilience of Taiwan's national security apparatus. This would help prevent Chinese spies from infiltrating Taiwan.
Tsai was asked whether there are new cases of infiltration at the Legislative Yuan or Presidential Office. He replied there are spying cases under investigation, but would not answer directly whether they involved the Legislative Yuan or Presidential Office.
He said some cases are under judicial investigation, some are at the evidence-gathering stage, while others are being processed or investigated.
