TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau has declared Hsu Chih-yu (許芷瑜), a former secretary of detained Taipei ex-Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), a wanted person, looking for her in Japan or Australia, reports said Friday.
Prosecutors allege Ko handed bribes he received to Hsu for safekeeping. The founder of the Taiwan People’s Party and former presidential candidate has been detained over allegations of corruption and campaign funding irregularities.
Hsu’s picture and details recently appeared on the Investigation Bureau’s Fugitive Online Query System, the Liberty Times reported. She left Taiwan for Japan in August, before investigators had an opportunity to question her about the allegations.
Prosecutors tried to contact her through friends, but she failed to return to Taiwan. Hsu, 38, was believed to have traveled from Japan to Australia in October, but has not been seen since. As a result, investigators listed both countries as possibilities in their query notice, per CNA.
Hsu, also frequently referred to by her nickname, “Orange,” is wanted for violating the Anti-Corruption Act, the notice said. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was asked to cancel her passport, while missions overseas will try to work out where she is and arrange for her extradition.
