TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Tourism Administration launched Thursday three new railway products for tourists available through the Taiwan Pass platform.
In a press release, the administration said the new options include a three-day pass for attractions in Yilan, a one-way ticket on the Alishan Railway in Chiayi, and a limited “Two People Pay, and a Third is Free” ticket option.
Taiwan Pass, introduced in 2014, allows visitors to make unlimited train rides throughout Taiwan over a three-day period, with separate passes available for the Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taiwan Railway Corporation lines. The passes can also be tailored to specific counties or cities.
The basic Taiwan Pass THSR edition, which is only available to foreign visitors, is priced at NT$2,800 (US$86). The TRC Edition is NT$2,400, and the Easy-Go Edition, which pairs TRC lines with one other regional transportation system, such as bus, MRT, or rental car, is available for NT$1,900.
In recent years, the Ministry of Transportation and Communication has worked to integrate QR codes into the Taiwan Pass program, reported CNA. This allows visitors to board trains, access national parks, and enter public museums with a simple swipe of their smart phone.
The Tourism Administration also added 14 new tourist destinations as options to the Taiwan Pass website. These include Yehliu Geopark, National Palace Museum (north and south branches), Kaohsiung’s Pier-2, Kenting National Forest, and Taichung Museum of Natural Science, among others.
Each of the three different passes can be supplemented with additional tour options depending on where visitors want to go during their visit to Taiwan. The Taiwan Pass website and the convenience of QR code tickets make planning trips across Taiwan easier than ever before.
