TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung residents reported a large number of dead fish floating in the Love River on Sunday.
After receiving reports, the Environmental Protection Bureau tested the river water and found no abnormalities, ruling out the possibility of illegal discharge. The water temperature was measured at 24.5 C, and officials believe the fish kill was most likely caused by a sudden temperature drop, per CNA.
Sanitation crews were dispatched to remove the fish carcasses, collecting approximately 600 kilograms from the river. City officials also pledged to increase inspections, including surface checks, to ensure water quality is maintained.

Water quality tests revealed a pH of 7.68, conductivity of 9,600 μS/cm, and dissolved oxygen content of 3.38 mg/L. These results were within safe ranges and consistent with normal conditions in the Love River.
Sanitation workers retrieved fish from the section of river between Zhonghua Bridge and Jianguo Bridge. By Monday afternoon, cleanup operations had been completed, though city officials said they will continue to monitor the area.
The Love River is equipped with six monitoring stations that collect real-time water quality data around the clock. Netizens can view updates on water temperature, pH, conductivity, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and other indicators through the official website.
