TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two dance videos filmed by a Ukrainian American influencer at popular tourist spots in Taipei have racked up a combined 3 million views.
In an effort to boost Taiwan’s visibility among younger audiences, the Tourism Administration partnered with China Airlines to invite three American influencers, per CNA. Vivian Lin (林宜錚), head of the Tourism Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, said the office coordinated with influencer Slavik Pustovoytov—known online as Vik White—through a local PR firm.
Lin said the campaign aimed to use catchy music and the talents of dancing influencers to inspire user-generated content and viral engagement, creating a “snowball publicity effect for Taiwan tourism.” White, who has more than 4 million Instagram followers and nearly 9 million on TikTok, took an interest in Taiwan and was eager to help boost the country’s appeal in the US.
White was joined by dancer friends Fik-Shun Stegall (2.6 million followers) and Lauren Gibson (600,000 followers) to explore and film at scenic locations around Taiwan. Their content, tagged with #DanceToTaiwan, has garnered millions of views.
One video of White and Stegall dancing to “Kung Fu Fighting” in a kung fu–hip-hop style along Taipei’s historic Dihua Street has attracted over 1.6 million views. Another video, featuring a performance to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” in an alleyway with Taipei 101 in the background, has surpassed 1.4 million views.
Lin noted that a record 650,000 Americans visited Taiwan in 2024. She credited this growth to greater awareness of Taiwan in the US, increased airline routes, and more travelers opting to transit through Taiwan.
“Taiwan enjoys the advantage of affordable prices, combined with rich cultural experiences, making it a popular choice for many young American travelers seeking independent trips,” Lin said.
