TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) called on the UK to continue supporting Taiwan’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) during a meeting with Ruth Bradley-Jones, representative at the British Office Taipei, on Monday.
Cho said Taiwan is a critical player in the global industrial supply chain and hopes to contribute further to CPTPP economic integration. According to the Cabinet, he reaffirmed that Taiwan aligns with the Auckland Principles for accession. “What we are lacking now is the consensus of all member countries,” he said.
Cho pointed out that Taiwan and the UK signed the Enhanced Trade Partnership in 2023, which is the first institutionalized economic and trade framework between Taiwan and a European country. Taiwan and the UK have many opportunities for cooperation, particularly in economics, energy security, and digital and financial resilience, the premier added.
Bradley-Jones expressed confidence in promoting greater cooperation based on shared democratic values and innovative economies. She lauded Taiwan’s five key trusted industries and echoed Cho’s desire for deeper bilateral cooperation.
The strategic partnership between the UK and Taiwan is built on shared interests, values, and mutual respect, she said.
