TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – An Indigenous Defense Fighter encountered braking problems during a landing at Magong Airport, causing the closure of Penghu’s main gateway, reports said Wednesday.
The plane was returning from a routine training mission during the morning when its wheel brakes failed, Radio Taiwan International reported. The jet blocked the runway, forcing the suspension of all air traffic at the airport.
The Air Force apologized to travelers for the temporary closure. A Mandarin Airlines flight from Taipei Songshan Airport to Magong scheduled to land at 12:30 p.m. had to return to the capital, per Liberty Times.
Wednesday’s failure was the second incident of its kind with the same type of jet and at the same airport within a week. On April 10, a tire on an IDF blew during a nighttime training round. The military said it was investigating both incidents.
