TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Over 40,000 protesters joined YouTuber Pa Chiung (八炯), DPP legislators, and others at a rally on Saturday, criticizing the KMT and China’s influence in Taiwan.
The “Reject the United Front, Protect Taiwan” rally was held on Ketagalan Boulevard near the Presidential Office at 2 p.m., per CNA. Addressing the crowd, Pa described “enemies in Taiwan’s legislature” who he said are working with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Campaigners seeking to recall KMT legislators gathered signatures from the crowd. A spokesperson for the recall campaign against KMT Legislator Wang Hung-wei (王鴻薇), who went by the name A-Mei (阿美), said volunteers are working hard to promote the recalls.

Shih Shu-hua (史書華), leader of the recall campaign against KMT Legislator Yeh Yuan-chih (葉元之), said, “Recalls are not hatred, but love for Taiwan.” Shih said legal amendments passed by opposition lawmakers have been controversial since last year, and the public is now responding with recalls.
Shih encouraged people to visit campaigners to understand their reasons for promoting recalls. She said despite the hardships recall campaign volunteers have faced, they will continue to work toward their goal.
DPP legislators Chen Pei-yu (陳培瑜), Puma Shen (沈伯洋), Wang Ting-yu (王定宇), and others attended the rally. United Microelectronics Corporation Founder Robert Tsao (曹興誠), a strong supporter of recall campaigns against KMT legislators, was also present.
