TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Six of Taiwan’s universities ranked among Asia's top 100 educational institutions according to Times Higher Education, with National Taiwan University ranking at No. 30.
The UK-based organization compared academic criteria from over 800 universities in East, Southeast, and Central Asia, using data from the 2022 school year. In addition to NTU, five other Taiwanese institutions made it into the top 100.
The other five Taiwanese schools that made the grade to reach the top 100 include:
- China Medical University at No. 66
- National Yang Ming Chiao Tong University at No. 72
- National Taiwan University of Science and Technology at No. 74
- National Tsing Hua University at No. 82
- Taipei Medical University at No. 94.
The criteria for the ranking included scores for Research Quality, Industry, International Outlook, Research Environment, and Teaching. The Taiwanese schools in the top 100 all scored exceptionally well in the Industry category, with good marks in research quality.
In late 2024, the Times Higher Education published its ranking for universities across the globe. Among over 2,000 universities worldwide, NTU ranked No. 172, a drop of 20 spots compared to its ranking in late 2023.
Times Higher Education ranked China’s Tsing Hua University and Peking University as the top two schools in Asia. The National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, also in Singapore, took the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively.
The University of Tokyo ranked No. 5, with three other Chinese schools, and two schools in Hong Kong rounding out the top 10.
