TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Following the completion of trial runs, Taoyuan Airport Mass Rapid Transit trains will continue to start operating from 5:30 a.m., reports said Wednesday.
The early services began as an experiment for the Lunar New Year holidays, and continued for three months. Taoyuan Mayor Simon Chang (張善政) described the scheme as a success, allowing the program to continue beyond its original end date of May 3, per CNA.
The early express train services start at 5:30 a.m. each day from Taipei Main Rail Station, with stops at New Taipei Industrial Park (A3) Station and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (A8) Station. According to Taoyuan Metro Corporation, 85% of early travelers held e-tickets or one-way tickets, showing they were planning to fly out of the country.
During the three-month trial period, 9,726 travelers used the early services, Chang said. Due to the early hour, trains would continue to operate at reduced speeds while passing densely populated areas.
