TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s security, its contributions to US economic revival, and the joint development of AI are the three areas where the nation is of vital importance to the US, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) said Wednesday.
In a pre-recorded address to The Hill and Valley Forum, she underlined the hope that the partnership between the two countries could help the next generations protect freedom. She said Taiwan was situated at the intersection of world trade, technology, and geopolitics, so any events occurring there would affect the global economy and the free world, per CNA.
An economic alliance would assist the revival of the US economy thanks to Taiwan’s highly efficient technology environment, according to Hsiao. She added that Taiwan could contribute to the launch of an advanced AI platform for the US.
Hsiao also underlined Taiwan’s efforts to develop its defense capabilities in conjunction with arms supplies from the US. She specifically mentioned the domestic development of drones, missile parts, radar systems, and next-generation communications as examples of efforts to increase deterrence.
The power of partnership between Taiwan and the US would shorten the time between innovation and realization, Hsiao told the forum. The Hill and Valley Forum was launched by a bipartisan group of lawmakers and venture capitalists concerned about China’s influence on the US economy. US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, senior members of Congress, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) also spoke at the 2025 edition on Wednesday.
