TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) is leading a delegation to Texas to bolster economic cooperation with the US.
The group, which departed on Tuesday, consists of members from the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association, AI Innovation Application Alliance, and Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association, according to MOFA.
The visit aims to utilize a new model of bilateral cooperation that helps Taiwanese companies enter the US market and integrate into America’s innovation ecosystem by utilizing local technology, capital, and talent, MOFA said. The visit also deepens exchanges between Taiwan and the US states. Since President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) took office, six US governors, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott, have visited Taiwan.
The delegation seeks to enhance bilateral investment through direct exchanges among industry, government, and other sectors. Encouraging US businesses to invest in Taiwan would support domestic industrial innovation, the foreign ministry said.
Lin is slated to deliver a speech at the Taiwan–Texas AI Innovation Summit on Friday.
Lin’s trip comes after the US House of Representatives passed two pro-Taiwan bills on Monday. The Taiwan Assurance Implementation Act requires the State Department to review and report on self-imposed restrictions on interactions with Taiwan and form a plan to lift them. The Taiwan International Solidarity Act makes clear that UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 does not pertain to Taiwan.
