TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A train on the Taipei MRT Brown Line was stalled for nearly 10 minutes due to a malfunction, causing long lines during rush hour on Wednesday morning.
At 8:18 a.m., many commuters reported that the train suddenly stopped between stations, per CNA. Platforms along the line quickly became overcrowded with queuing passengers, and at Zhongxiao Fuxing Station, the crowd even backed up from the Brown Line platform to the Blue Line platform.
The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation explained that the incident occurred when a Wenhu Line train traveling from Donghu Station to Nangang Software Park Station experienced a communication anomaly. This triggered a built-in safety protection mechanism, causing the train to stop.
The operations control center dispatched personnel to address the issue. The malfunction was resolved by 8:27 a.m.
The TRTC added that approximately 125 passengers onboard the affected train were transferred to subsequent trains, and the intervals between trains were adjusted to stabilize service. The cause of the malfunction will be investigated after the train is returned to the depot.
