TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A plan to allow foreign students who graduated from universities in Taiwan to take on six types of jobs has been postponed, reports said Wednesday.
The Ministry of Labor announced the plan in March to open up work as intercity and city bus drivers, intercity and city bus safety management staff, freight truck drivers and driving assistants, warehouse logistics clerks, and assistant nurses. However, due to opinions received during the phase of public consultation about the proposal, the ministry has decided to put the plan aside for the time being, per CNA.
According to an announcement by the ministry on Wednesday, the government had agreed to let migrant workers apply for jobs in the waste recycling sector, but the six mid-level job categories for foreign graduates of Taiwan universities were not mentioned.
Workforce Development Agency division chief Su Yu-kuo (蘇裕國) said the ministry had received suggestions from the public that would be discussed during departmental meetings. The ministry would reevaluate measures to accompany the introduction of the changes, he said.
The government had hoped to attract 6,500 foreign graduates with the six categories of mid-level jobs.
